Westside Church of Christ Reopens Sunday

There are at least two verses of the Bible coming together this weekend: "Where two or more come together in my name, there am I with them. (Matthew 18:19 [NIV version])" and "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19)."

The West Side Church of Christ is returning a fellowship to the church building at 18th and Linden Streets in Sidney. The ministry will be lead by David Bryan.

"I will be the teacher and minister," Bryan said Wednesday.

He said he and his wife have been in Sidney for about 25 years. They commuted to the Church of Christ in Julesburg for 14 years.

"We had people move away, die off and unfortunately we had to close the doors"

The Julesburg church closed in 2008, he said.

Since then, they have been conducting home services where a small fellowship of like believers would meet in a home.

"From that point on, we've been having services in our home," he said.

Bryan said they recently began driving to Chappell to meet in a home church there as well. With the increasing number of people attending the home churches and people who prefer a church building, they looked for a suitable church building. That is when the West Side Church of Christ building came available.

Bryan says there are two structures within the Church of Christ, one with instrumental music and one that sings without musical instruments. He said he favors no instrument music.

He added the main focus of the church is to get the truth of the Bible into people's hearts and minds.

"I believe very strongly in the Bible, not men's ideas," he said.

West Side Church of Christ meets at 9 a.m. for classes, 10 a.m. for worships services, and 6 p.m. on Sunday. The church also meets at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
