With Veterans Day around the corner, one local man would like to enhance the community's knowledge of those who dared to serve. Larry Nelson, a retired U.S. Colonel, has a very unique collection of uniforms. Collected from war veterans in this city and others, Nelson has brought their stories to life. The Cheyenne County Ladies Chamber hosted the 15th Annual "Holiday Taste Of Sidney" and Cupcake Showdown at the Cheyenne County Community Center Thursday evening. There were 35 businesses/organizations that participated in the event. The Cupcake Showdown is a new tradition added this year, which was won by Keep Sidney Beautiful. The proceeds go to a scholarship fund that will be used to help children play sports at the Cheyenne County Community Center.... Full story
The City of Sidney offices will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. All city departments will be closed including the landfill and the library. The Dial-a-ride bus and Stage Line bus will not be operating. The Solid Waste Department will be collecting Tuesday’s trash on Wednesday. All other collection days will remain the same. The Leyton High volleyball team (24-9) ended its season early for the second consecutive year, as it fell to the Crawford Rams (22-5) in four sets on Thursday night in the D2-6 district final in Alliance. After thrashing previously undefeated Hanover, 60-14 last week in the first round of the CSHAA six-man tourmanent, the Peetz Bulldogs (9-1) football team looks to take down another undefeated squad in Eads (10-0) in the semi finals.
