    Four local banks have teamed up with the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce to help make holiday shopping a little easier for area residents. In a program that stresses buying local, the participating banks are offering the option of borrowing $100 to $900 per family in "Chamber Christmas Dollars" interest-free for six months to qualified borrowers.     A new Famous Footwear store is set to open this week in Sterling, Colo. The store – located in the High Plains Shopping Center at 1329 West Main St. in Sterling – will open this Wednesday, Nov. 19. It will host a series of opening events throughout the day.     Cabela’s and the Harry and Reba Huge Foundation have decided to extend the Women in Leadership scholarship program for an additional five years. The $10,000 scholarships are designated for women graduating from Nebraska high schools. The Cabela’s Women in Leadership scholarships are part of the company’s initiative to encourage young women to prepare to become tomorrow’s leaders.     Leyton third-grader Jonathan Kruse received Grand Champion honors as part of the Wheat Belt Christmas cover page art contest. Area elementary students were invited to participate.   • Gas prices continue to fall statewide

    Average retail gasoline prices in Nebraska have fallen 0.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.01 per gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 1,150 gas outlets in Nebraska. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.89 per gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
