    Jim Cantrell, a former Sidney art teacher, was chosen as the official artist for the 2017 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks races. He received the call from Churchill Downs last summer and completed the art in the fall. Cantrell said it was an honor to be chosen.   • City pursuing truck parking lot

    The City of Sidney is pursuing a parking area for carriers displaced by a recent ordinance banning carrier trucks from parking in residential zones. “We’re looking for land initially that we could rent,” Ed Sadler, Sidney city manager said. “We have talked to some people.     Cheyenne County Commissioners continue to iron out the details of fairground usage by approving dry camping with the rental of fairground buildings. According to Cheyenne County Clerk Beth Fiegenschuh, Commissioners approved dry camping at the fairgrounds only if it is connected with a county approved event. In order to rent any building located on the fairgrounds, an application must be submitted and the event must come before the Board of Commissioners for approval.     Sidney's volleyball club launched in January and ended its first season Saturday competing at a grand prix event in Casper, Wyoming. There, the nine-member team, all 12 years old or younger, was met with success. "We did very well," Coach Lucia "Lu" Howard said.
