    Mike Motz, Sidney SunTelegraph|Mar 30, 2023

Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph Local, county and state law enforcement and first responders raced to the scene of an accident at around 3:30 on Monday afternoon. About a half mile east of marker 66 on Route I-80, two tractor trailers slid off of the road during white-out conditions. The snow and ice accumulations on the highway made for treacherous conditions, causing both of these trucks to go off the road and down an embankment on the side of the highway. According to Nebraska State Patrol... Full story

  • No Pressure, Only Pleasure at Spring Fever 5k Walk

    Barbara Perez, Sidney SunTelegraph|Mar 30, 2023

Barbara Perez, Sun-Telegraph Perfection is not required in the upcoming Spring Fever 5k walk, hosted by Take Back Health and Fitness in Sidney. The "K" component of the 5K distance represents the metric distance of a kilometer, so a 5K is 5,000 meters. For Americans who are more accustomed to miles, this converts to roughly 3.1 miles. In a standard 5k run the length of time it takes to complete depends on the pace at which you are moving. Many beginning runners aim to maintain somewhere in the... Full story

  • Dilatory Tactics

    Steve Erdman, 47th District|Mar 30, 2023

Life in the Unicameral Legislature is always full of surprises. Last week I saw things I thought I would never see. The structure of the Unicameral Legislature is such that it allows for a single State Senator or a minority group of State Senators to control how the debate on a bill proceeds on the floor. So, today I would like to tell you about what has been happening at the Capitol in Lincoln and how I intend to fix it. Sen. Machalea Cavanaugh of Omaha has effectively derailed the first half... Full story

  • International Criminal Court: Sauce for the Goose

    Thomas L. Knapp, Columnist|Mar 30, 2023

How much does a mug shot mean to you? To Alvin Bragg, it apparently means quite a lot. All signs point to Bragg, the progressive prosecutor in Manhattan, indicting Donald Trump for his 2016 hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels. The old Karl Marx line is that history repeats itself first as tragedy, then as farce. This historic first-ever indictment of a former president of the United States would skip straight to farce. First, there's the tawdry and relatively trivial subject matter. Trump... Full story

  • Roger Williams vs. the Puritans

    William H. Benson, Columnist|Mar 30, 2023

Last time in these pages, I mentioned Jonathan Winthrop's "city on a hill" sermon, "that all the eyes of all people are upon us." Winthrop considered himself a type of Moses who was leading his people, like Israel, to a new land, to build a new Jerusalem. This is spelled out in John Barry's 2012 book, "Roger Williams and the Creation of the American Soul: Church, State, and the Birth of Liberty." Winthrop and his fellow Puritans believed the city on a hill should have a church and a state, and t... Full story

"Therefore, looking unto Jesus, Who, for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, and has sat down at the right hand of the Throne of God." Hebrews 12:2 Consider this Man, Jesus, who borrowed a donkey, rode through jubilant crowds, crying, in gut-wrenching sobs, because Jerusalem missed her hour of visitation by an invisible God in His visible Person. Continuing to the Temple, He overturned tables of money changers, answered tests of every manner and in every matter. He watched as people... Full story

  • Red Raiders Take Eight Golds at John Ganser Invite

    Mike Motz, Sidney SunTelegraph|Mar 30, 2023

Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph It was a smart choice, moving the John Ganser Invite from Saturday, March 25 to Friday March 24, as the weather on Saturday would only be suitable for a hockey game or dog sled race. Nevertheless, the change in date did not effect the Sidney Red Raider Track & Filed team in their first meet of the season, as they took home eight gold medals and runner-up team honors behind first place Gering. Juniors Luke Holly and Isak Doty finished first and second in the 100... Full story

  • The Ark in Sidney still a Driving Force in Children's Ministry

    Barbara Perez, Sidney SunTelegraph|Mar 30, 2023

In 1977, George Benson recorded the song, "The Greatest Love of All", and it was made even more popular when Whitney Houston released her version of the song in 1985. Its opening line, "I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way" is one well represented by the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney. More than 15 years ago, the E-Free Church started its youth program, The Ark Ministry. Known as "Tuesday Church" to those involved, it originally consisted of the... Full story
