    More than 300 community members worked together this weekend to pick up trash throughout town in efforts to keep Sidney beautiful. On May 2, Keep Sidney Beautiful held its annual Great Trash Race. The ten participating teams pitched in to collect as much garbage and recyclables as possible.   • Commissioners grant permit for Pit Acres

    Work will resume this week at a gravel mining operation site near Sidney that in recent years led to a court battle and permanent injection preventing such activities. The Cheyenne County Commissioners unanimously approved a conditional use permit on Monday for Pit Acres for gravel mining, crushing and washing, as well as asphalt and concrete batch plants.     The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department held its annual banquet at Dude's on Saturday evening. The banquet is held to honor and recognize the Sidney firefighters, with awards given for years of service as well as the Firefighter of the Year award.     Average retail gasoline prices in Nebraska have risen 3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.46 per gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 1,150 gas outlets in Nebraska. This compares with the national average that has increased 8.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.62 per gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
