  • The Voice of Response

    Forrest Hershberger, Publisher, Sun-Telegraph|May 25, 2022

The room is deliberately dim. It's easier on the eyes. The duties from the outside appear to be simple, but can change at any give moment, or one phone call to the next. Responding to a moment of distress is more than calling 911 and waiting. It is the middle-man, the link between the incident and the first responders. It is how the dispatcher asks for information, how the caller relays the information to the dispatcher, and how the dispatcher communicates with numerous departments he or she...

  • 15th Annual Pony Express Rides Through Sidney

    Forrest Hershberger, Publisher, Sun-Telegraph|May 25, 2022

The normal casual start of a Thursday morning was briefly interrupted last week when a group of motorcyclists entered Sidney from West Highway 30. The interruption of normal was not an invasion, but rather an attention-grabbing method for a social issue: the mental health of children. Volunteer motorcyclists rode across Nebraska from May 18 through May 21 for the 15th annual Pony Express Ride, an effort to raise awareness about children’s mental health. The ride will finish at the Nebraska S...

  • Delta Dawn When the Light Comes On

Ivy Joy Johnson, The Joy Mission|May 25, 2022

Humility plus honor welds our hearts together with God’s heart so that, fearfully, we honor and worship Him in spirit and in truth. “In the fear of the Lord there is confidence and His children will have a place of refuge. The fear (reverence) of the Lord is a fountain of life to turn one away from the snares of death.” Proverbs 14:26, 27 “God is good and His mercy (covenant) endures forever!” Psalm 136. Father God changes NOT! God’s recipe for manna still lives! A spiritual phenomenon...

  • Widening the Disconnect

Forrest Hershberger, View from the Handlebars|May 25, 2022

I wanted to tease or title this as “strange days,” but I already used that. Maybe it is “Strange Days2.” I recall early in the social media platform reading a sentence or so that really puts things in perspective. “Destroy the cities, and they will grow back. Hurt the farmer and there will be weeds growing in the city streets.” Maybe 10 years ago, I went on my first bicycle tour. It was a landmark for the effort, but also for the education. Among the lessons learned is the frequent disconnect...

WHO sessions begin Sunday May 22 and go through May 28, but Mr. Biden has already decided to present this amendment to WHO for adoption. You may recall that U.S. Constitution DOES NOT A...

  • Should You Make Extra Mortgage Payments?

    May 25, 2022

You might enjoy owning your home – but the mortgage? Not so much. In fact, you might want to do everything you can to pay it off as quickly as possible. But is that always the best strategy? In one sense, your mortgage can be considered a “good” debt because it’s backed by a tangible asset – your home – that has real value and may even gain further value. Furthermore, by historical standards, you’re probably paying a pretty low interest rate on your mortgage, so you’re getting a lot of benefit – a place to live and a potentially appre...

  • What Is Really Worth Dying For?

    May 25, 2022

Memorial Day Weekend is coming. Some look at it as the first part of summer, with the annual trip to the Lake, fun in the sun, reunions and family fellowship. Some celebrate it as a holiday from working, a break in the monotony of making a living. Memorial Day is traditionally marked by parades, speeches, and ceremonies, and a time set aside for the decoration of the graves with flowers and flags, to honor and remember the nearly 1.1 million of our nation’s armed services personnel killed in wartime. And many families also remember those loved...

  • Straight Talk From Steve:

    Steve Erdman, 47th District|May 25, 2022

As our national anthem says, the United States of America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. As Americans we never tire of sharing those stories of fearless bravery which have provided us with freedom and protected our liberties for almost 250 years, especially against foreign oppressors.
