A motion for a new trial filed on behalf of Jason Assad, the Sidney man convicted of five felony charges in April stemming from a domestic dispute, was denied on Monday. The failure of some drivers to stop for pedestrians at a busy crosswalk leading across 11th Avenue to Legion Park in Sidney is unsettling for a nearby homeowner. Because of the crosswalk's proximity to South Elementary School and Legion Park, it is heavily used throughout the year, Steve Wilson said. New Sidney High School head football coach Chris Koozer had his first opportunity to run his team through its paces last week and is beginning to settle into a day-to-day routine despite a few challenges. Locals Cody McKay of Leyton High and Jill Behrends of Creek Valley High will represent the local area in the Mid Plains Area All-Star games will be held June 5, at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium in North Platte.
