  • Ricketts receives farm bureau, cattleman's endorsements

    Caitlin Sievers|Jun 30, 2014

So if we’re going to grow the state, we’re going to grow it because agriculture is strong.” He called the backing of the Nebraska Farm Bureau as well as the Nebraska Cattleman Association incredibly important. Ricketts...

  • No Till Notes: 'Enjoyable Meeting'

    Mark Watson|Jun 30, 2014

I just got home from a real enjoyable no till field day meeting at Pat and Shane Cullan’s farm south of Chadron. We had a nice turnout and some good conversation throughout the morning on the benefits of continuous no till crop production on dry land acres in their area. I want to thank Shane and Pat for allowing us to use their farm as a starting point for the field day. The Nebraska Environmental Trust supports these field days with grant funding through the Nebraska No till Cadre. If you would like to host a field day at your farm or like...

  • Legion Tournament - Sidney shoots down Buckley, 11-7

    Jun 30, 2014

No single aspect ensured Sidney's 11-7 win in Sunday's third place game of Post 17's home tournament. On offense, Sidney belted out 14 hits, four of them for extra bases, and took advantage of several key Buckley errors. In the field, they committed no miscues, turned a double play and on four occasions left Bombers stranded in scoring position. "Everyone pulled together," observed second baseman Jaden Sears. If one item caused the visitors considerable harm, however, it was the bat of Post 17...

  • Legion Tournament - Big fourth inning leads to win

    Dave Faries|Jun 30, 2014

As if to prove Sidney had shrugged of Friday night's woes, Bradey Holtz pulled off an audacious move to open Saturday's game against Hershland. The speedy leadoff hitter drew a walk in the bottom of the first. He then stole second while Hershland pitcher Jayden Foster held the ball in his hand. "I thought he made a move to first, so I went," said Holtz, who leads the team with 17 steals. "It was lucky." It was also sparked a convincing 7-2 Sidney win in the second day of the tournament. Austin...

Friday - Burton fans 9, overpowers Gordon in opener Sidney pounded out 10 runs in their home tournament opener against Gordon. Starting pitcher Kyle Burton needed just one, as he blanked the visitors over four innings. Sometimes betrayed by wildness, Burton on this afternoon was laser sharp. He struck out two in the first, two more in the third and fourth. In the second he fanned the side, catching Lane Andrews looking. Along the way, Burton allowed just two hits. He did not issue a base on...
