  • Swimming pool fundraising efforts continue

    Ryan Hermens|Jul 23, 2015

A fundraising drive to support a new outdoor swimming pool in Sidney is continuing with momentum from a recent $25,000 donation from a local business. Funding for the vast majority of the $5 million project is in place, but a $250,000 challenge grant is contingent upon collecting another $299,000 in community donations. The Peter Kiewit Foundation grant would provide a quarter of a million dollars for the pool if the community raises $750,000. More than half of that sum – $451,000 – has already been secured. Megan McGown, the city’s forme...

  • Letter To The Editor: Wilkinson's jail sentence should just be scrapped

    Jul 23, 2015

Dear Editor, I and a lot of other people agree 100 percent with Larry Nelson’s letter from Monday, July 20 titled “Jail time for chief is way out of line.” I would venture to say every police officer in the country (including Sidney) has at one time or the other used his discretion or authority to scrap a possible citation for a friend, family member or someone of importance, or even just to give someone a break. Even judges have been known to rhow citations and charges out of court. One hundred percent enforcement of the law could get prett...

    Stephen McKay, Sports Writer|Jul 23, 2015

Once upon a time, I could be transfixed for hours by the Baseball Encyclopedia or Baseball Almanac. Now the information once housed in those enormous volumes can be found at our fingertips on the internet. I spent some time recently scanning through all the players born in Nebraska who have played in the major leagues.
