    Jul 25, 2013

Many people who work 9 to 5 have trouble racing downtown in time, when most shops close their doors at or shortly after 5:00 p.m. Starting last week, however, some of Sidney's downtown stores joined together, staying open until 7 p.m. on Thursday nights. The city is helping to promote these idea with advertising in print, radio spots and social media. • Around town: The time, the place, the free pizza

    Dave Faries|Jul 25, 2013

Someone always wins. Of course, you have to be in the right place at the right time to collect. The place is Sam & Louie’s. The time? Almost precisely at 7 p.m. every Friday night. The payoff comes in the form of free pizza, pasta, wings or whatever else a table orders during the restaurant’s popular Free Table Fridays. Well, popular for those in the know. I recall desperately scrambling to finish a ridiculous load of 4-H projects after a summer of extreme laziness. I would initially enter into every non-animal related category that I found even slightly interesting. As... Full story

    Caitlin Sievers|Jul 25, 2013

Plans for the new hospital are going so smoothly that city officials consider it something to brag about. "I just think you need to be out there tooting your horn a little bit," Sidney Mayor Wendall Gaston told hospital CEO Jason Petik during Tuesday night's City Council meeting. "This is a pretty impressive looking facility." Still, while the initial design process for the medical center is already complete, architects and hospital officials are ironing out some kinks and are open to changes. "I know we are still working on some concepts and s... Full story

Sidney Public Library's reading programs aren't just for kids. The adult summer reading program, started by Vickie Morlock in 2006, wrapped up last week. Sue Wilson, a 5th grade teacher at West Elementary won the grand prize of dinner and a movie for two, drawn from entries submitted when participants return books.
