    Extraordinarily high yields in area wheat fields should make up for lackluster prices. "It's a good year for the county for raising wheat," said Andrew Kabes of Scoular Grain in Sidney. Workers at Crossroads Cooperative and Scoular Grain agreed that the harvest in Cheyenne County was nearly finished.     For 11-year-old Camille Highby, a less than stellar weekend turned into national publication of one of her drawings. Highby's drawing, titled Silly Sea Horse was featured in the Your Own Pages section of the July edition of Highlights magazine. "I was really bored on a Saturday," Highby said of the day she drew her picture.     Jerry George Kivett of Loveland passed away on July 26, 2014 at McKee Medical Center in Loveland. He was born on February 22, 1935 in Dalton, to George and Margaret (Ravert) Kivett. He graduated from Dalton High School and joined the U.S. Army. He was Honorably Discharged in 1956. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 3 daughters, Julie (Jim) Madison, Mashell (Larry) Tague, and Chris (Mike) Kivett-Berry; grandchildren, Ben, Beccy, Dixie, Shawn and Nick; great-grandson, Sven; a brother, Larry (Phyllis) Kivett; and a sister, Francine (Harleigh)... Full story

    The following people appeared in Cheyenne County Court on Monday, July 28, 2014 before the Honorable Randin Roland: Johnny Lancaster, age 52, of Sidney appeared for a preliminary hearing on a charge of criminal mischief, a class IV felony. A preliminary hearing has been continued to Aug. 25. Steven Simpson, age 54 of Sidney, appeared for a status hearing on a charge of cruelty to an animal, a class I misdemeanor.     Dear Editor, The July 23 issue of the paper had a story about cutting costs by reducing ambulance calls by 15 percent. I have a question. When a person suddenly gets ill in the middle of the night when should you call a rescue unit? The pain may be just gas or the start of a fatal heart attack. My idea is to try to seek medical attention. If we can’t afford to run the rescue units, how can we afford to send out paramedics? These people will have to have more training than the EMTs.     Dear Editor, As a lifelong Cheyenne County resident, a Sidney resident (64 years) and a board members of the Cheyenne County Historical Association for 14 years I have a great interest in preserving our Fort Sidney buildings. We also lived in an apartment (in what is now the museum) when it was an apartment house (seven years). We have nine board members on the CCHA.
