An ordinance that would rezone three lots at the Sidney Business Park to allow for a retail-oriented business took a step forward this week when the City Council voted in favor of the change, 3-2, after a public hearing. Councilors Roger Gallaway, Wendall Gaston, and Chris Gay voted in support of the ordinance; Mayor Mark Nienhueser and councilor Joe Arterburn cast the two “no” votes. Ronald Hopkins may not have a future political career – he wants to save taxpayer money. When asked by a Cheyenne County judge last week why he didn’t want an attorney as he was arraigned on a felony drug possession charge, Hopkins said it was because he wanted to take responsibility for his actions and not waste time or money. Tucked neatly in the crook of Nebraska's Panhandle, Sedgwick (Colo.) County has bragging rights to the only two Pony Express stations in the state. MaryAnne Tina Barnhart, 54, of Cheyenne, passed away on August 11th at Davis Hospice Center. She was born December 27, 1960 in Wheatland and had lived in Cheyenne for the past 31 years. MaryAnne enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and going camping, fishing, and hunting in the mountains with her family. She was a good cook and baker and an avid shopper. Sidney High School graduate Brendan Holly was named to the dean’s list for the spring term at Centre College, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.60 grade point average. Dalton Prairie Sooner Museum open Saturday and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. for the rest of the summer.
