The first phase of construction for the Sidney Outdoor Aquatic Center began Thursday morning with contractors leveling the ground of the projected site in Legion Park. According to City of Sidney Park Superintendent Tom Von Seggern, after the ground is leveled, excavation of the site will begin. After 46 years, previous owners Rich and Pat Kloberdanz, decided to retire. The business began in November 1969 and the Kloberdanzs purchased all of the assets in 1975. On Tuesday, all 81 Runza Restaurants in Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and Kansas donated 15 percent of sales to purchase books for libraries, schools and school foundations in communities with a Runza location. The annual fundraiser, entitled “Great Books for Great Kids,” promoted the importance of reading and literacy. This year’s effort raised $45,276.56.
