  • Nebraska State Patrol conducts surprise inspections

    Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) beefed up it's numbers in Sidney Wednesday to conduct surprise commercial vehicle inspections. NSP Sargent Mike Maytum said the officers that came to Sidney to conduct the inspections were from all over the state, essentially tripling the State Trooper population in Sidney for the day.     Potter Days participants have started preparing for the 2016 celebration by holding a dress rehearsal. Both Miss Potter candidates and residents performing in the Legion Show practiced Wednesday night at the Legion Hall in Potter.     Jessie M. Huaracha, 87 of Sidney, passed away at the Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care on Monday, August 29, 2016. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 3 with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m., Friday, September 2.   • Safety training held for electrical linemen

    Earlier this week Sidney hosted a three-day safety training for electrcial linemen in the area, sponsored by Nebraska Rural Electric Association. Several vendors also helped make this training possible by donating time and equipment for students to learn.     Sidney football players make their first, and longest, road trip during the regular season today, travelling to Aurora to meet the Huskies. Sidney enters the game coming off a 49-7 win over Lexington, while Aurora is 0-1 after dropping its first game to Class B powerhouse McCook last week.     Sidney High School's cross country team gets into action today, competing in the Gering Invite beginning at 1 p.m. The meet marks Sidney's re-entry into Class B competition, after qualifying for state in Class C in both the boys and girls divisions last year.
