She was a longtime resident of Scottsdale, AZ and spent summers in Pinetop, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, and their little fur baby Lizzie, and will be resting with them forever. She was a queen, and much-loved...elegant, wise, funny; she missed nothing, could be pointed and prickly, caring,...

  • Send Netflix a Message

    Dan Carlson, Columnist Prairie Ponderings|Sep 16, 2020

My household canceled our Netflix subscription months ago. We’d been grumbling for some time about the increase in programming that mocked our values and was either borderline pornographic or certainly blasphemous toward our faith. I really wasn’t surprised when I first saw promotions for the film “Cuties” a few weeks back because I’d been telling people to expect a cultural push toward acceptance of pedophilia, bestiality and other deviant practices for some time. “Cuties” is a...

  • Counting Our Blessings

Forrest Hershberger, View From The Handlebars|Sep 16, 2020

In even the best experience, high school has a way of making a student feel like he’s passing through a blender. Don’t get me wrong. High School can be a fun experience. It is a fun and learning experience academically and socially. The books and now the tablets and iPads are only part of the bigger lessons, the social lessons. I call it a blender because students pass in and out of classes, some thinking of the next class, others stressed about the quiz they just bombed and others who...

  • Coincidences

    Bill Benson, Columnist|Sep 16, 2020

Ian Fleming divided his 7th James Bond novel, Goldfinger, into three parts: “Happenstance,” “Coincidence,” and “Enemy Action.” Three times Bond intervened in Auric Goldfinger’s diabolical plans to enrich himself, and after the third time, Goldfinger had had enough. He seized 007. “Mr. Bond,” Goldfinger said, “they have a saying in Chicago: ‘Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it’s enemy action.’” Coincidences startle us. Two people discover...

  • Peace in the Middle of Turmoil

    Sep 16, 2020

I write this article on the Anniversary of the Destruction of the World Trade Center, Pentagon and the Plane Crash in a Pennsylvania field. The emotions that go through me even after 19 years are so very real, but my focus has changed from 19 years ago. I don’t focus on the tragedy, I focus on the one who has been there through it all GOD. Some would say how could GOD let that happen, well we all have a Free Moral Will to choose, and those men chose to do evil and kill people, as for me I chose to follow and serve a GOD who wants to heal,...

  • Cowboy Memory

    Brandee Gillham, The Cowboys Wife|Sep 16, 2020

There is something about my cowboy that I will never understand. The way our minds are hard-wired so differently truly amazes me. We have lived in the same house for over eleven years and very few things have moved locations since we first put them in their place. The special whisk goes in a particular drawer, and the green platter has a spot in a specific cupboard, and the griddle stands on end to the right of the stove. Despite these kitchen items remaining in the same place for over a...

  • Crisis Training for Ag Professionals

    Sep 16, 2020

An upcoming online training for agricultural professionals will teach individuals how to recognize and respond to potential signs of crisis and suicidal behavior. Farming and ranching can be stressful in the best of times. Financial worries, unpredictable weather, unpredictable commodity prices, plant pests, livestock diseases and isolation all contribute to a producer’s anxiety. And now Nebraska’s rural communities and families are coping with the unpredictability and imposed isolation produced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Nebraska Extension...

The Sidney squad kicked off and started on defense, and was able to shut down the Cozad offense that entered the game winning their first two games by a combined score of 78-to-7. Sidney’s first drive also stalled and the Raiders were forced to punt. Cozad...

Leyton’s Warrior Football team hosted rival Bayard on Friday night, and a hard-hitting close contest turned into a convincing 50-to-24 win as the Warriors took control of the game in the second half. The night started with a solemn remembrance on Patriot’s Day, with members of multiple area fire, police and veterans groups participating in a moment of silence commemorating the memories of all who were lost on September 11, 2001. After the ceremony, the game started and immediately the two te...

  • Matching Fundraising Effort Underway for Sullivan Hills Camp

    Forrest Hershberger, Publisher Sidney Sun-Telegraph|Sep 16, 2020

There is something “normal,” a little bit historic, about attending a summer camp. The concept is foreign to some families, however, because of the expense of attending a camp and of driving to the nearest camp. Since 1995, Sullivan Hills Camp near Lodgepole has offered a nearby place to get away, a place for summer camp, weekend and event activities of all ages. The camp depends on the support of donors to keep prices affordable for campers and their families. For several years, supporters...
