  • Columbus

    Steve Erdman, 47th District|Oct 12, 2023

Monday, October 9th is Columbus Day. It is also Indigenous Peoples Day here in Nebraska. Christopher Columbus was a man of incredible integrity, but revisionists have targeted him in their attempts to rewrite the history of Western civilization with false narratives. Too many people today erroneously believe that Christopher Columbus was a bad person. So, today I would like to expose the revisionism and help restore the good name of Christopher Columbus. On October 9, 2017 Vincent Schilling...

  • A bomb thrower targets his own

Rich Lowry, American Writer and Columnist|Oct 12, 2023

The Matt Gaetz moment is upon us, and unless you enjoy politics as absurdist theater, you might want to skip it. The bomb-throwing Republican congressman from Florida, who has hitherto distinguished himself with sundry attention-getting antics, is making his biggest play yet by trying to remove Kevin McCarthy from the speakership by offering a so-called motion to vacate. McCarthy’s alleged offense is relying on Democratic votes to pass a last-minute spending measure over the weekend to avert a...

  • Delta Dawn When the Light Comes On: Week 41

Ivy Joy Johnson, The Joy Mission|Oct 12, 2023

“When wisdom enters your heart and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion (judging justly and reasoning rightly with a touch of class) will preserve you. Understanding will keep you and deliver you [from evil] so you may walk in the way of goodness and righteousness.” Proverbs 2:10-20 Fear of torment is not something to manage. It must be refused! Such ‘spiritual warfare’ allows reverence of God to rule. One who imitates God as a dear child is dangerous to the wiles of the devil Ephesia...

Since 2004, radio personality Steve Inskeep has hosted National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.” During Covid lockdown in 2020, at home with time to spare, Inskeep researched and wrote a book that was published this past week. Inskeep found its title, “Differ We Must: How Lincoln Succeeded in a Divided America,” in a letter that Abraham Lincoln wrote to his good friend Joshua Speed, dated August 24, 1855. Last week, Inskeep explained to Amna Nawaz of PBS News Hour, and Scott Simon of NPR, that...

  • A Local Champion in Race and Life

    Daiana Greene, Sidney Sun-Telegraph|Oct 12, 2023

A favorite event of Sidney's annual Oktoberfest is the "Running of the Wieners", but perhaps no one looks forward to it more than Junior. Junior is a eight-year-old Dachshund who has traveled to Sidney from Crook, Colorado to defy the odds and participate in the annual event for the past seven years, albeit using a customized apparatus on wheels instead of his hind legs. His journey began when he was diagnosed with IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease), a condition that affects the spinal discs...

  • Red Raiders Hold Off Haymakers, Stay Unbeaten

    Mike Motz, Sidney Sun-Telegraph|Oct 12, 2023

SIDNEY--After defeating district rival Chadron last week, Sidney hoped that the Red Raiders would not have much trouble against a three-win Cozad team at Weymouth Field. However, the Haymakers always give the Red Raiders a tough fight, and Friday's contest proved no different. Sidney started the game on offense, and looked a bit disjointed in their first possession, with senior running back Luke Holly fumbling, then recovering the ball, on a run for a loss. A third down incompletion led to senio...
