Mark Watson, Panhandle No Till Educator|Dec 22, 2014

I’d like to start off by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This is a good time of year to reflect back on last year’s growing season and give thanks for all the many blessings we have received. There are always challenges in agriculture but at the end of the year we are lucky to be able to work with Mother Nature and our natural resources on a daily basis to produce food and fiber for our livelihood. I wanted to make everyone aware of the upcoming educational events around the region that focus on no-till crop and fo...

The changing beef industry will be the focus of Nebraska Extension’s annual “Ranching for Profitability” meetings in January at eight sites around Nebraska: O’Neill, Ainsworth, Broken Bow, Grand Island, Brady, Mullen, Valentine and Kimball. Last year was one for the record books. Many sale barns broke record cattle prices. Mother Nature was unpredictable. Input prices also continued to creep upward, and forage was no exception. Cattle producers may have questions about what to do next in 2015. The meeting agendas will include these speaker...

    Rob Langrell|Dec 22, 2014

Freshmen don't generally embark on their high school athletic careers with lofty thoughts of spectacular seasons. First-year Sidney High School wrestler Derek Robb is no different. As this season progresses, that may change. Robb won the 138-pound championship at the Sidney-Bridgeport Invitational on Saturday at the Cabela's Athletic Facility, pushing his record to a perfect 13-0 on the season. "It is kind of a surprise to start the season like this," Robb said. "I've had some tough matches, but...

  • Creek Valley boys, girls sweep Banner County

    Stephen McKay, Sports Writer|Dec 22, 2014

It may be a little misleading to consider that a Dane McConnell layup early in the first quarter gave the Creek Valley Storm a lead it would never relinquish. While the Storm boys were never headed and only twice tied, it wasn't until the final eight minutes that they were finally able to put away the Banner County Wildcats . Never appearing in any real danger, however, Creek Valley cruised to a 46-36 win on home ground Saturday night. It improved to 3-3, while their district mark remained at...

    For The Sun-Telegraph|Dec 22, 2014

FOR THE SUN-TELEGRAPH The Sidney Red Raiders may have started the winter break a little too early as a flat second half sealed their fate at Fort Morgan, Colorado with a 61-50 loss to the Mustangs. The Raiders played the Mustangs to a draw over the first two quarters at 25-25. But the hot hands of Eric Kembel and post player Joey Snyder helped move the needle in the other direction as the Mustangs took a six-point lead after three frames. They tacked on another five points to their lead in the fourth quarter. “After our game at Alliance the n...
