    Only the most daring faced into the wind as a dust storm whipped through the fairgrounds on a Thursday evening during the Cheyenne County Fair. Dust blanked out the carnival lights and temporarily sent tractor pull fans scattering. The wind eventually settled down.   • Cabela's corporate expansion project to begin in the spring

    Cabela’s continues to its expansion in Sidney on two fronts, not only adding to its corporate campus, but also making certain there is enough housing in the area for its growing workforce. The planning commission held a public hearing last week for the preliminary plat of Cabela’s corporate campus expansion, which will take place in the 27 acres west of its current headquarters.   • Preliminary groundwork approved for new hospital

    Plans are moving forward for completion of the new Sidney Regional Medical Center facility. The new facility will be located at the northeast corner of the intersection of Greenwood Road and Virginia Lane. The hospital requested a re-zoning of the area from a mixture of agriculture and heavy commercial to central business district zoning. Last week the planning commission held a public hearing last week concerning both re-zoning of the area where the facility will be built and a preliminary plat.     The lopsided national agony over “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson’s plight has entertained me to no end. The controversy—as it were—says far more than the reality star’s commentary touching on civil rights, sin, world history and homosexuality.
