Nevada man charged with felony meth possession: Called police on himself

A Nevada man finds himself in Cheyenne County Jail after his Saturday morning arrest on felony drug charges.

John Lee Longshore, 58, Carson City, remains in custody on $50,000 bond (or 10 percent) after his Monday presentment before Cheyenne County District Judge Randin Roland on a Class IV felony count of methamphetamine possession.

According to his arrest affidavit, Longshore actually made it easy for authorities to make the arrest.

Nebraska State Patrol was called to locate Longshore and his semi truck along Interstate 80, near the Potter exit. The driver had advised that he had discovered drugs in his trailer and needed a trooper.

When NSP finally did locate Longshore and the truck, it was 10 miles up the road at the Brownson exit. The truck was parked in the traffic lane, and Longshore was standing beside the truck in the traffic lane.

Longshore allegedly told NSP troopers that the drugs were in the engine compartment of the truck, and that he had moved the narcotics to a location under the trailer. The troopers then noticed Longshore was making quick jerky movements and was extremely hard to understand.

After receiving consent, troopers searched the rig. Authorities eventually discovered a red rag which contained methamphetamine, a pipe and marijuana. Longshore’s story kept changing about where he had located the drugs and why they were moved.

NSP conducted a computer check of Longshore, which revealed a lengthy criminal history for drugs, distribution of drugs and assaults on law officers.

Longshore was arrested, and waived his Miranda rights and agreed to answer questions. He admitted that he uses methamphetamine and indicated it had been two weeks since he had last used. A follow-up search of the truck uncovered more methamphetamine and meth paraphernalia.

Roland on Monday set a 3 p.m. March 12 preliminary hearing for Longshore.

Also in Cheyenne County Court Monday, Roland accepted an amended charge of violation of a protection order against Ronald Conger, 51, Sidney. Roland ordered a pre-sentence investigator and sentencing for Conger is set for April 22.
