Former Sidney athlete Garska recognized at Casper College

CASPER, Wyo. — Former Sidney resident Shelby Garska, now a sophomore at Caspet College, has been named to the women’s All-Region IX North squad.

Garska, the daughter of Travis, Stephanie and Jonel Garska, is a sophomore guard for the Thunderbirds squad, currently 24-7 after winning their Region IX opener against Lamar, 46-37, Monday night.

Garska was one of two T-Birds picked to the team, joining teammate Shelby Stewart.

Also named to the team were Jasmine Davis and Milomilo Nanai of Sheridan College; Shanna Halalilo and Mika Pinner of Western Wyoming Community College; Kenosha Wright of Gillette College; Kennedy Allen of Northwest College; Dawson CC’s Janniqua Thomas; and Ivana Grbic of Miles CC.

As Casper’s point guard, Garska averaged 5.8 points per game, averaging 29 minutes a game. Garska also picked up 66 steals, 115 assists (tops on the team) and shot 75.9 percent from the foul line.

Garska participated in several sports in Sidney before moving to Casper, where she played for Natrona County’s Mustangs.
