Douglas Cole Mason, 34, of Genoa City, Wis., passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Fox Lake, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 15, at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora, Neb. Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to be kept in trust for the children’s education fund. Douglas Cole Mason, the son of Kirk Douglas and Marti Ellen (Schwartz) Mason, was born in Grand Island on March 15, 1978, and passed away in Fox Lake on March 6, 2013, at the age of 34.

Marti and Doug moved to Lodgepole when Doug was two. He graduated from Lodgepole High School in 1996, where Doug participated in high school sports.

Doug was married to Chrissy Flohr on Oct. 9, 2004, at Ingleside, Ill. They have three sons, Cole Douglas, Austin Raymond and Ty Steven. Doug worked general construction. During his career he worked as a roofer, highway construction, home remodeling and was even trained as a crane operator.

Doug loved fishing, especially ice fishing on the lake with his boys. He enjoyed building things and was very good at woodworking and art. He also was very gifted at free hand drawing. Doug enjoyed watching NASCAR races.

He was preceded in death by his half-sister, Ashlee Mason-Grimes; maternal grandparents, Keith and Mildred Schwartz; step-maternal grandmother, Patricia Schwartz; paternal grandfather, Larry Mason; aunts, Destiny Frerichs and Kim Mason; and a great-aunt, Sharon Berger.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother Marti (Jeff) Nielsen of Aurora; father, Kirk (Krissy) Mason of Portland, Ore .; three children, Cole, Austin and Ty Mason; ex-wife, Chrissy all of Illinois; half-brother, Keith (Tabbi) Nielsen and their daughter, Amelia of Aurora; three-step sisters, Kristi Willits-Elliott and family, Renae Cowan and family and Angie Knerr and family all of Oregon; grandmother, Lois Mason of Central City; step-grandmother, Beth Andreasen of Aurora and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends in Nebraska and Illinois. Other relatives of Aurora include, maternal uncle, Mo (Jo) Gakemeier and two paternal great aunts, Mildred (Larry) Nadeau and Luanna (Bud) Wall.
