Inaugural Lego building competition a towering success

The inaugural Lego building competition at the Cheyenne County Community Center.

There were three age categories comprised of 47 entrants.

Competitors were first asked to build a vehicle, then a structure and “something creative.” Judges scored the creations on a scale of one to ten based on recognition, explanation of what it is/what it will do and creativity.

Only the individuals who were registered were allowed to build the creations, they couldn’t share Legos or ideas and the parents were asked to give verbal encouragement to their children who were in the competition.

One competitor, Jayce, who built a race car, rocket ship and a zoo said that he was having fun and that he looked forward to next year’s competition. Riley also stated that he was having fun.

Aaron Clark had two children in the competition. When asked what he thought about the event, he replied that his kids were having fun, and that it was “pretty cool to see all these kid’s creativity. I can tell that there are a lot of young, bright minds here.”

The organizer of the event, Jason Rohm, says that he was very happy with the turnout, and he appreciated those who helped and the community support in this inaugural event. He went on to say that the children all had a good time, and it was great to see the creativity and imagination. Rohm plans to host another Lego competition next year, and he said that a couple of people expressed interest in an adult age group. He summed things up with saying that everyone did very well, and that it was a successful event.
