Sidney, Creek track teams have strong showing

CHADRON — Getting three wins on both the girls’ and boys’ teams, the Sidney High School track teams put up strong performances at Saturday’s Chadron State College indoor meet.

“It was a good opening day,” SHS coach John Ganser said. “Not only did we do well on the track, but we also scored well in the field events.”

Senior Morgan Linneman came away with three first-place efforts for the Lady Raiders. She won the 200-meter dash, and then anchored two relay teams to victory. Linneman joined Krissa Segelke, Sarah Mahr and Genessa Schilz in the 4 x 4 and in the 4 x 8, Alli Ehler, Schilz and Madi Stafford set the table for Linneman.

“Morgan had an outstanding day, winning an event and then anchoring the two relays,” Ganser said.

SHS had two second-place efforts on the girls’ side, those being Ehler in the 1,600 run and Segelke in the 55 high hurdles.

Lucas Rosenbaum had a splendid day for the Raiders’ boys team. The junior won the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 9 inches in his first day of competition. Rosenbaum placed fifth in the triple jump and ran two relay legs.

Jachob Wiedeburg and Sam Arterburn ran 1-2 in the 3,200 run, and the 4 x 8 quartet of Brenton Christian, Hayden Linneman, Logan Uhlir and Brenner Keane was a winner.

Jake Heeren was second in the shot put, with Nick Conger (55 highs, high jump) managing two third places. The Raiders’ 4x160 team of Blake Blayne, Logan Lewis, Rosenbaum and Christian also ran third.

“Logan Lewis ran sixth in the 55-meter dash, out of 78 runners,” Ganser said. “Conger went six feet in the high jump and two others went 5-10, so that is promising. Alli Ehler ran well, and Jake Herren’s 44-foot effort in the shot put is good for a freshman. I was very impressed with Christian and Keane’s relay legs, and Savanna Rosenbaum went 5-0 in the high jump.”

In the Division II events, Creek Valley had two winners on the girls’ side, those being Summer Mueller in the 1,600 and Ashley Burr in the triple jump. Mueller was second in the pole vault for the Lady Storm, as were Gunner Hodges in the shot put and Keegan Michael in the 400 dash for the Storm boys.

Sidney on Saturday will host its Invitational, with at least eight other teams competing, including Leyton and Creek Valley.
