Gurley resident faces drug charges

GURLEY — Following the Friday afternoon execution of a search warrant, Cheyenne County deputies arrested a Gurley resident on methamphetamine-related charges.

Justin J. Warren, 29, faces a Class ID felony count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute after deputies entered the residence of Shirley Brewer at 1:43 p.m. Friday.

Chief deputy Fred Wiedeburg located a male, Warren, in the southeast basement bedroom.

Once the residence was secured, Wiedeburg and investigator Zach Goodrich searched the home. The search revealed numerous cellophane bags, one with a substance that later field-tested positive for marijuana. There were other cellophane bags which were empty, but another bag contained a white crystal substance which was suspected methamphetamine. That substance also later field-tested positive for methamphetamine, with a weight of 12.2 grams.

Warren was placed under arrest, and was later taken to Sidney Regional Medical Center for treatment of a self-inflicted injury to his right hand.

Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub entered the charge against Warren during a presentment Monday before Cheyenne County Judge Randin Roland.

Warren remained in Cheyenne County Jail today in lieu of $250,000 bond, and his case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 2 at 2 p.m.
