Search warrant for stolen coins results in drug arrest

Execution of a search warrant for stolen coins led to the Tuesday arrest of two Sidney individuals on drug-related charges.

Estevan Campos, 18, Sidney, faces one count of Class IV felony possession of methamphetamine, while Julian Salinas, 19, also of Sidney, has been charged with infractions in connection with the case.

The arrests stem from reports that up to 16 collectable coins had been stolen from a Sidney woman, Carrie Uhrig. Sidney City Police began investigating by taking statements and discovering that Uhrig’s daughter, Jessica, had apparently sold a half-dozen of the coins to a local pawn shop.

Authorities located Jessica Uhrig’s car on Manor Road, and executed a search warrant, seeking the remaining coins. When no one answered the door, officers kicked the door in, and detected the smell of marijuana. Two males and a female were inside the house, and police photographed a substance believed to be methamphetamine in the basement.

An amended search warrant was secured for the home, and additional methamphetamine was found in the home.

Campos and Salinas appeared for arraignment Thursday before Cheyenne County Judge Randin Roland.

Both were originally charged with the same count, but Salinas had his case reduced to a pair of infractions, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A preliminary hearing for both defendants has been set for Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Campos remained in Cheyenne County Jail this morning, in lieu of $50,000 bond, or 10 percent.
