Create a spring wreath at Library this weekend

This Saturday Sidney Public Library officials are holding an arts and crafts program as part of their annual series.

On April 13 from 10 a.m. to noon co-owner of the Imagine That craft store, Eleanor Plummer, will be showing participants how to create their own “Spring Wreath.”

Plummer will step-by-step show how to create the wreath by using grape vine wreath, fabric and wood, according to Doris Jensen, the director of the library.

An example of the wreath is currently on display at the library and there is limited space for adults. To reserve a spot for Saturday’s event interested participants can call library officials at 308-254-3110.

The event is free for participants.

“We’ve done other craft items before at the library and this time we were thinking spring and that maybe we should do something to hang on the door and that maybe a wreath would be a good thing to do,” explained Plummer.

The co-owner said that Imagine That usually participates in one craft event at the library per year and sometimes twice a year.

“We are always pleased and honored that they ask us to come back every year,” she said.

Plummer said that in previous years projects have included an embroidered hoop bunny and that most of the time the crafts are holiday related.

According to Plummer, Imagine That became a reality in 1999 when Plummer and her daughter (also co-owner) Denise Spath, opened the store.

“We just felt that it was needed, and it was a niche that needed to be filled here,” she said.

Plummer said moved to Sidney from Montana in that year to be closer to her grandchildren and that is when they had the idea.

“Our daughter and her family moved here from West Virginia to work for Cabela’s and grandkids are a very powerful draw,” laughed Plummer.

She said that even before the move she had always loved crafts and the store falls right in line with her passion.

“Basically I’ve always liked crafting,” she said. “My first love of course is trash-to-treasure crafting.”

Plummer said that she is excited to bring her craft skills to the library this Saturday.

“It’s perfect for the library because they do so much for the community and have so much available for the community that I think that a lot of people don’t even realize what they all have to offer. So anytime we can bring people together in that atmosphere is best,” she said.

Plummer said that each participant will be able to create their own wreath and follow her as she creates one right in front of them.

“They will each get to make one and they will each take home a finished project,” she said.

Nothing comes out of participant’s pockets for the craft materials because although the library offers to pay for the supplies, Plummer said that Imagine That usually donates them.

“There’s a lot of people who are very talented and very creative, and unless the materials are available your creativity doesn’t always come to the forefront,” she said. “If you have access to the materials and ideas then you are apt to be creative.”

With the supplies offered she said that there is room for a total of 10 to 12 adults.

“We’re excited for Saturday,” said Plummer. “We usually have a great group that shows up for our crafts and a lot of the ladies are in assisted living and they don’t get to take part in a lot of things sometimes so we look forward to it.

“It’s also a social hour really. We have fun and they visit with each other because they don’t get to see each other either.”

Plummer said that this is a great way for citizens to come together and really feel like a part of the community.
