Ehler scores big in Fever summer league win

Paxton Ehler scored 23 points in his first appearance for the Rocky Mountain Fever, helping the summer basketball squad to a 96-81 win over the Colorado Elite.

The tournament, held in Denver, featured a grueling Saturday schedule before bracket play on Sunday. Fever teammate Mike Daum, a 6-9 center from Kimball, added 22 points and 12 rebounds in the opener.

They returned to action a few hours later, falling to the Colorado Miners, ranked as that state’s number one AAU squad.

In a tight, back and forth event, the Miners extended a lead late in the action to hold on 107-95 – despite a 17 point, 10 board performance from Daum and 15 points from Ehler.

Daum added a pair of blocks and Ehler recorded two steals.

Coach Brandon Valdez rested both for much of the day’s third contest, a 70-49 shellacking of Thunder Ridge.

The win secured a spot in Sunday’s Platinum Bracket, where the Fever met the Colorado Billups.

Ehler fought through tight double-teaming guards to score 6 hard earned points. Daum ticked off another double-double, with 22 points and a dozen rebounds. The team, however, were bounced from the single elimination bracket, 80-72.

The Fever return to action April 19-21 at the AAU Mile High Super Regional in Denver.
