Petik's round helps Raiders to third at Ogallala

Led by Rachel Petik's 88, the Sidney Red Raiders golf team side-stepped most of the rainy weather to finish third at the Ogallala Invite at the Bayside Golf Course on Monday.

Scottsbluff, which had five players medal, put in another strong showing to take top honors with a 340-stroke total. McCook wound up in second place by seven strokes over Sidney, 372-379.

North Platte (416) and Ogallala (437) finished fourth and fifth.

"The scores all seemed pretty high. It wasn't just my girls so it's hard to know what to make of it," said Raiders Head Coach Jody O'Connell who was not able to attend the match. "Considering all our district competition was there, finishing third so handily is not a bad result."

McCook's Megan Vetrovsky won individual honors with a 78 while Maaika Mestl of host Ogallala was the runnerup at 82. Jalee Pilkington (83) of Scottsbluff, Sam Rehmig (84) of Gering and Kim Moore (85) of Scottsbluff rounded out the top five. Petik's score earned her a ninth-place medal.

The other Sidney scores inlcuded Jessica Campbell (96), Karson Langley (97), Katelin Cole (98) and Rachel Blauert (103).

"Rachel's (Petik) 88 doesn't seem so bad considering what a lot of the field was shooting," O'Connell said.

Sidney faces its next challenge at the Sky View Golf Course in Alliance on Saturday. The shotgun start is at 9 a.m.
