Creek Valley's Hayes fires career best round

The only thing that seems to be able to stop Creek Valley's Tabetha Hayes from reaching lower and lower--a good thing in golf--is the end of the regular season.

For the fourth time in her last five rounds, Hayes again cut her competitive best. Her 107 at the Hershey Invite yesterday was a career-best round by three strokes. Meanwhile the Strom freshmen duo of Maddy Johnson and Alexis Olsen came in with a 130 and 138 respectively.

"Tabetha met her goal by getting under 110 so I'm proud of her for that," said Storm Coach Cyd Hanson. "She just keeps getting better. Tabetha's been having trouble with a slice so she's been working on that a lot and it's getting better.

"But she's been hitting her irons wonderfully and she was chipping better," concluded Hanson.

Though Johnson was plagued by a few big numbers. She rallied from a 74 on the front nine to post a 64 on the back. Olsen Meanwhile had a round highlighted by a par on the 11th hole.

"Their main problem continues to be the short game," Hanson said of her freshmen. "Alexis enjoys the chipping but she struggles alot with her putting."

With the regular season over, Hayes and Johnson will head to the district tournament on Monday. Class C Districts will be held at West Wind Golf Course in Ogallala on Oct. 7.
