NSAA rules will keep Blauert off Sidney's district roster

Sidney sophomore Rachel Blauert learned last week that she will not be eligible to participate in the Class B District 4 Golf Tournament today.

Since Blauert has been taking part in both varisty and junior varsity matches this season, she ended up playing in more matches than allowed under NSAA rules.

The NSAA publication "Boys and Girls Golf Manual" states, "participation in interschool golf competition by any school student shall be limited to 12 meets. No more than nine of the 12 meets can involve more than four teams."

Blauert pulled out of the Best of the West tournament last Wednesday after just two holes believing that would keep her eliglible. Raiders Coach Jody O'Connell, however, informed Blauert on Thursday that it was already too late.

"I feel horrible about it. I was trying to get her as much tournament experience as possible," said O'Connell. "I'm not making any excuses. It's my fault. I screwed up."

Teams will bring five players to districts. The Raiders four seniors Rachel Petik, Karson Langley, Jessica Campbell and Katelin Cole have played in every varisty match this year. All four will play in the district tournament. O'Connell had originally selected Blauert as the fifth player because she had the lowest average score outside the top four.

Replacing Blauert will be junior Theda Parker. She will make the trip because her seasonal average is next in line to that of Blauert. Parker was one of six Sidney players that earned their way to the Best of the West tournament last week.

In addition to Sidney the other district B4 schools include Alliance, Cozad, Gering, Lexington, McCook, Ogallala and Scottsbluff. Alliance will host the tournament at Sky View Golf Course. Players will go off the first and 10th tees in threesomes and foursomes beginning at 9:30 this morning.

The top three teams at districts will qualify for the state tournament in Lincoln, Oct. 14-15. Individuals can earn a trip to states with a top-15 finish.
