Winnie E. Handley Bruns, age 85 of Sidney, passed away at the Golden Living Center, Friday morning, Nov. 1, 2013.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Thur., Nov. 7th in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Dalton Cemetery.

Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel to sign Winnie's register book and drop off condolences for the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Winnie's name to the Sunshine Children's Home, 3405 N. Higley Road, Mesa, AZ 85215, the First United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.

Winifred Elaine Handley Bruns, the daughter of John Martin and Viola Isabell (Stephens) Weyerts, was born on Sept. 3, 1928 at Gurley. As a child Winnie moved with her family to Wyoming and lived on a ranch near Devil's Tower before a move to Montana and then to Holden, Wash. She graduated from High School at Edmonds, Wash. before completing training in Fashion Design from Edison Technical College. Winnie returned to Gurley caring for her grandmother Anna Weyerts and working at the Sioux Army Depot.

On Dec. 29, 1951 she was united in marriage to Harry Leroy Handley at Gurley and raised her family. Harry passed away in 1978. In Oct. of 1979 she married William Niemann at Laramie, Wyo. Winnie continued her involvement with farming and on Jan. 18, 1994 she married Alvin H. Bruns at Mesa, Ariz.

Winnie was actively involved with W.I.F.E., was a talented artist and loved horses and tennis. She very much enjoyed the nineteen years she was able to spend wintering in Mesa.

Immediate survivors include her husband: Alvin of Sidney; her children: Cal Handley of Sidney, Wes Handley and wife Robin of Edmond, Oklo. and Jean Kuehn and husband Les of Sidney; step-children: Deanna Reifschneider and husband Larry of Lincoln and Dan Bruns and wife Becky of West Linn, Org .; her sister: Darlene Somers and husband Charles of Montesano, Wash .; brother-in-law: Lewis Bruns and wife Dorothy of Lodgepole; (8) grandchildren: Jennifer, Jayne, Leah, Phillip, Daniel, D.J., Mackenzie and Parker and (6) great-grandchildren.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, (2) husbands: Harry Handley and William Niemann, (2) grandchildren: Ali and Sean Handley, (2) brothers: Robert and Johnny and (1) sister: Marilyn.
