Rolanda Dennis

1952 to 2013

Rolanda Dennis, 61 of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away Thurs., Nov. 28, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo., after a three year battle with cancer. Rolanda was born Rolanda Dee Gorman on Feb. 23, 1952, in Sidney, Neb., to Bev & Andy Gorman.

She attended Sidney High School, playing flute and often piccolo in the band and enjoyed all the fun and frolic of her small town. She worked at the local newspaper, the Sidney Telegraph and after graduating in 1970, attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo.,  she and Rocky Dennis were married in 1974, they moved to Ft. Morgan, Colo. and started their life together.   She again worked for the local newspaper for years before the family moved to Greeley, Colo., where she would raise her oldest two children and spend the next 18 years. In Greeley, Rolanda started a printing company, Superior Printing and also worked for Homestead Title Company, all while truly making an impact on the local community; an active volunteer for non-profit groups such as Special Olympics, Meals On Wheels, Santa Cops, and Just Say No, before she ultimately served on the Board of Directors for the DARE program, as well as working as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Humane Society of Weld County. Her philanthropic spirit carried on throughout her life and can be seen still in her children and all those she touched. After relocating to Leavenworth, Kan., where she raised her third daughter, Rolanda continued to leave her legacy with involvement in the American Cancer Society and the Salvation Army through her employer of over 10 years, Country Club Bank.

Rolanda was diagnosed with one of the rarest forms of reproductive cancer, fallopian tube cancer, in March 2011. She never let the disease or treatments slow her down, enjoying multiple trips with family and friends, as recently as a September 2013 trip to the Bahamas. Rolanda touched so many lives and so many people in ways that may never be seen; she was and continues to be deeply loved by her family and all those who knew her.

Rolanda was preceded in death by her parents, Beverly and Reynold 'Andy' Gorman and father-in-law Everett Dennis.

She is survived by husband, Rocky Dennis; daughters, Teah Dennis and Gina Dennis; daughter, Holly Kloucek and husband Steve; granddaughters, Alyssa Kloucek, Stephanie Kloucek and Kylie Kloucek; daughter, Heather Fischer and husband Mike; grandsons, Ty Fischer and Cory Fischer and granddaughter, Nicole Fischer; brothers, Larry Gorman and wife Patty, Dale Gorman and wife Cathy, Loren Dennis and wife Paula, Robert Dennis and wife Beryl; sister, Patricia Neb and husband Robert; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

Rolanda's body was cremated. Family visitation and a memorial services will begin at 10 a.m. Wed., Dec. 4, 2013, at  the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, Leavenworth, Kan. Flowers and memorial gifts can be sent directly to the funeral home.

I am very saddened at Rolanda's passing. My heart goes out to her family. Several years ago, while I was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, we would have lunch. She was always the bright cheerful person she was when we werekids in Sidney.
