Shirley M. (Meyer) Schmit, 87, of Randolph, Neb. died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Colonial Manor in Randolph.

Shirley Margaret (Meyer) Schmit, daughter of John and Viola (Colling) Meyer was born May 23, 1926, on the family farm. She graduated from St. Frances School in 1944. Following graduation, Shirley worked in the First State bank for several years until she married Vincent Schmit on Feb. 10, 1947 at St. Frances Church in Randolph. The family farmed in the Randolph area from 1947 to 1995 and moved into Randolph in 1985.

She was a member of St. Frances Catholic Church in Randolph, St. Lucy Circle Seven, Christian Mothers, prayer club, Catholic Order of Foresters and taught CCD for many years. Her hobbies included card club, gardening, and sewing.

Survivors include 10 children, Dave and Pix Schmit of Randolph; Kathy Sauser of Neligh; Theresa and John Bailey of Little Rock, Ark.; Barb Young of Hay Springs; Pat and Greg Schultz of Hastings; Joanne and Alan Ekberg of Osmond; Paul and Corinne Schmit of Randolph; Rose and Dan Schoening of Sidney; Bill and Sindee Schmit of Randolph; Mike and Jeri Schmit of Randolph; 35 grandchildren;

44 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 2 sisters Vince & Vonnie Meyer of Randolph; Elmer and Sherry Meyer of Randolph; Ed & Mary Lou Meyer of Scottsdale, Arizona; Norma Stueckrath of Randolph; Delores & Frank Sattler of Boise, Idaho; sister-in-law Marge Schock of Minnesota.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband Vince, three children Margie, Mary Lou and Joseph Schmit; 2 son-in-laws Ed Sauser, Virgil Young; 3 grandchildren Dan Sauser, Shauna Schmit, Jamie Schmit; 2 brothers Jack Meyer, Earl Meyer; 1 brother-in-law Butch Stueckrath; sister-in-law Dorothy Meyer.

Visitation will be held at 3 to 8 p.m. on Mon., Dec. 30th with 3 p.m. Christian Mothers Rosary and 7:30 p.m. Parish Rosary at the church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Randolph.

Funeral services will be held at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph on Tuesday, Dec. 31st at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Frances Catholic Cemetery in Randolph. Johnson Funeral Home in Randolph is in charge of Shirley's care and funeral arrangements.
