Doyle E. Butts, 83 of Sidney, passed away at the Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care, Monday evening, Jan. 6, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Fri., Jan. 10th in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Doyle's name to the new Sidney Regional Medical Center Lab. Please include Doyle's name with your contribution.

Doyle E. Butts, the son of Irvin A. and Margaret A. (Russell) Butts, was born on May 19, 1930 in Sidney. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1948 and entered the service and was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base at Dayton, OH, where he met Jean Smithers. They were united in marriage on Aug. 12, 1950. Upon his Honorable Discharge they moved to Sidney in the 1950's and began his career in the medical field. Doyle was Lab Director at Memorial Health Center for almost fifty years.

Doyle is Past Exalted Ruler of Sidney Elks Lodge and Past Lodge Secretary for Lodge #1894, Past Chairman of the Benevolence Committee for the Nebraska State Elks Association and Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sidney for more than fifty years.

Survivors include: (2) sons: Greg Butts and wife Lana and Kent Butts and wife Sara both of Sidney; (1) daughter-in-law: Maureen Butts of Ogallala; (2) sisters: Erla Thompson of Sidney and Mary Lou Justen of Warner Bibbins, Ga .; (1) brother: Larry Butts and wife Bonnie of Mulbery, Fla .; (1) sister-in-law: Deana Butts of Lakewood, Colo .; (12) grandchildren; (21) great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean in 2009, (1) son: Irvin Earl Butts, (1) brother: Roger Butts, (3) brothers-in-law: F. Blaine Thompson, Bernard Justen and Tom Ross and (1) sister-in-law: Rena Murphy.
