Lenard Dickinson, 87 of Lodgepole, died Saturday afternoon, March 1, 2014 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wed., March 5, 2014 in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lodgepole with Brenda Tophoj, P.M.A. of Gloria Dei and Rev. Leonard Suhr of the Sidney Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow with military rites in the Pleasant View Cemetery north of Lodgepole.

Memorials have been established to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Cheyenne County Horseshoe Club and the Sidney Shooting Park Youth Shooting Program.

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Tues. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Lenard was born on Feb. 25th 1927 , on the Dickinson family farm in rural Lodgepole Nebraska and has lived in Cheyenne County his entire life. When he was 17 he enlisted into the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after WWII. As a young adult he worked for various farmers around the area.

Lenard was united in marriage to Darlene Rowan on Sept. 1, 1948 at the Cheyenne County Courthouse. To this union 4 children were born. They raised their four children on the family farm in rural Lodgepole while he worked for the railroad as a section man. He farmed until they moved to Lodgepole in 1970. After Lenard retired in 1988 from the Union Pacific railroad after 38 years he enjoyed spending time with his wife Darlene woodworking and spoiling his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and playing horseshoes with the Cheyenne County Horseshoe Club. In 2005 he moved to Sidney and lived with Tom and Linda and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He has been a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and has been a member of the American Legion for the last 61 years.

He is survived by two Daughters and Sons in Law, Linda and husband Thomas Noel of Sidney, Faye and Husband Michael Mackay of Sidney, 8 Grandchildren Jessica and husband Michael Webb of Sidney, Melissa Noel of Sidney, Kimberly Noel of Sidney, Jennifer and Husband Josh Moss of Las Vegas, Jacob and wife Brittany Noel of Sidney, Tasha and husband Mason Huck of Sidney, Chelsea MacKay of Sidney, Michael MacKay of Sidney and 2 Great Grandchildren Derek Webb and Jaylyn Noel.

He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene, infant son, two daughters Connie Dickinson, Eileen Harmon, four brothers George , Marian , Billie, Floyd Dickinson, and five sisters Hazel Hadeen, Mary Havorka, Nellie Bruns, Alta Dickinson and Florence Pilakowski.
