Funeral services for Marjorie Ann Thomas Cathey, 74 of Montalba, TX will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Bergman officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Palestine. Mrs. Cathey passed away Fri., Feb. 28, 2014 at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Born April 2, 1939 in Sidney to Arno and Minnie Thomas, she and John Cathey were married in Greenville, Miss., on June 6, 1956. Married for 55 years, they were blessed with six children. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and much more. She leaves an example for each of us whose lives she touched. Margie was very involved in numerous organizations and worked diligently for the things in which she believed. She was a member of the TDW and was a past-president. She loved The Lord and was faithful throughout her life. A member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, she served in various capacities, including the Altar Guild and Lutheran Women's Missionary League, frequently crafting banners and serving in the kitchen. She was also involved with the Community Center and Fall Fest in Montalba. A businesswoman and seamstress beyond measure, Margie owned a drapery shop until her retirement in 1997. She could make anything and make it well. She loved quilting and was excellent at arranging flowers and decorating, using her gifts willingly to help anyone. Also, she loved working in her flower beds and being outdoors, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband John Cathey and son James Cathey. Also, her parents Arno and Minnie Thomas, sister Lila Amen and brother LaVerne Thomas.

Margie is survived by her brother, the Rev. Raymond Thomas and wife Dorothy of Jackson, Mich..; her children; Cindy Hickman and husband Gary, Tom Cathey and wife Kimberly, all of Flint, TX, David Cathey of Tyler, TX, Suzann Vaughn and husband Greg of Huntsville, TX and John Cathey, II and wife Sharron of Hallsville, TX, grandchildren: Tom Cathey, II, Jennifer Cathey-Smith, Farrah Cathey-Johnson, Kristen Cathey-Buehler, Grant Hickman, Sara Vaughn, Jordyn Vaughn, Cole Cathey and Holden Cathey, great grandchildren: Brandon Buehler, Luke Cathey, Wyatt Smith, Bentley Buehler and Gwyneth Johnson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers will be Jackie Aldridge, Blake Aldridge, Cole Cathey, Tom Cathey II, Grant Hickman and Brandon Smith.

The family received condolences at Bailey & Foster Funeral home in Palestine from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thurs., March 6, 2014.
