Sidney man pleads no contest on two felony counts

Nathan Pohl, 29 pled no contest on Wednesday to charges of attempted burglary and escape, both class four felonies.

The Sidney man was initially arrested in February when law enforcement found him trespassing at the golf course mower shed. Upon his arrest, police allegedly found several items inside his vehicle that were taken from the mower shed.

Later on that very frigid day, Pohl reportedly escaped the police department through a side door without a coat or shoes. He was located when an employee at Points West Bank on Glover Rd. reported that there was a man she didn’t know in the back seat of her car.

Pohl had climbed into the trunk of the bank worker’s car and fell asleep. When he woke up, he climbed into the back seat, where he was spotted. On suspicion that Pohl was involved in other recent burglaries, police executed a search warrant at his residence.

“We located items stolen in a recent residential burglary and also located items stolen in the street department burglary,” said Sidney police Chief B.J. Wilkinson in a previous interview.

A flatbed pickup truck was stolen during the break in at the city street department building on Dec. 9. of last year. Other items taken from the building included hand and power tools, laptop computers and a portable welder.

The stolen truck was located on the afternoon of Dec. 9 in a pasture north of town. It had been partially hidden with hay bales.

Pohl’s sentencing is scheduled for May 13 at 10:30 a.m.
