Debbie Jo Grothe, 57, of Lemoyne, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Ogallala Memorial Hospital in Ogallala.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thurs., May 22, 2014 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial of the ashes will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Lemoyne Cemetery.

Rosary services will be held on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to a fund created at the Bank of Keystone (PO Box 210, Keystone NE 69144) to assist the family with her medical bills and the remaining funds will be split between the Callahan Cancer Center in North Platte and the St. Jude's Children's Home in Memphis, Tenn.

Debbie Grothe was born on Jan. 30, 1957 in Sidney, to Maurice and Eleanor (Borcher) Gordon. She grew up in Sidney and graduated from Sidney High School in 1975. She was a member of the high school chorus and madrical and the high school band for all four years and was a Twirler for 2 years. After graduation she began working at Cabela's.

On Nov. 21, 1977 she was united in marriage to Tony Grothe in Sidney. From this union 2 children, Kristi Lee and Michael Anthony, were born in Alliance. The family moved often following Tony's job and Debbie stayed home to take care of her young children. After her children entered school Debbie received the education to become an Optician. She was a member of the American Board of Opticianry and the Nebraska Optometric Association Paraoptometic Section. After many years living in Alliance, Debbie and Tony retired to Lake McConaughy in 2012 where they spent 2 wonderful years together walking the beaches.

Debbie loved camping, gardening, flowers, visiting with friends, being around people, and her grandbabies.

She is survived by her husband, Tony of Lemoyne; daughter, Kristi Grothe of Yucca Valley, Calif; son, Michael and wife, Taylor Grothe of Alliance; 2 grandchildren, Tanner Matthew and Lyla Jo; mother, Eleanor Gordon of Sidney; brother, Bill and Nancy Gordon of Sidney; sister, Cheryl and Bob Orosco of Lincoln; 3 brother-in-laws, Greg and Cheryl Grothe of Clermont, Florida, Jim and Sheryl Grothe of Queen Creek, Ariz .; John and Jenna Grothe of Lakeside, Ariz .; sister-in-law, Karen and Kerry Davis of Castle Rock, Colo .; mother-in-law, Betty Grothe of Lemoyne; 6 nieces, 8 nephews, 2 great-nieces, and a host of many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Maurice and her father-in-law, Bob Grothe.
