Cabela's to begin construction on stores in three states

Just ahead of last week’s shareholder meeting, Cabela’s announced the opening of three new stores in Alabama, Oklahoma and New York.

The company plans to begin construction on a 80,000 square foot store in Huntsville, Alabama this year with a fall 2015 opening date, according to a press release from Cabela’s. This store is expected to employ around 180 full time and part time workers. This will be Cabela’s first Alabama location.

“Felt just like the place we needed to put a store,” said Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner at last week’s company shareholder meeting.

Cabela’s will begin construction on its first Oklahoma location in Oklahoma City later this year. This 80,000 square foot store which will employ around 180 people will open in fall 2015.

“We should have been in Oklahoma City years ago,” Millner said at last week’s meeting.

The 90,000 square foot store planned for Woodbury, New York will be the company’s second in New York state. Cabela’s plans to begin store construction in spring 2015 and open in spring 2016. It will employ around 170 people.

“Woodbury will be a great location for Cabela’s and our customers in the Northeast,” Millner said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to announce a second store in New York and can’t wait to serve our customers in the area.”

Cabela’s first New York location, in Cheektowaga should open in fall of this year.

At this point, Cabela’s operates 56 stores and plans to open eight more before the end of this year.
