1938 to 2014

Marvin C. Harmsen, 75, of Douglas, Wyo. and former Potter area resident passed away Wednesday morning, June 11, 2014 at the Cheyenne Health Care Center in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 19th in the Prairie West Church in Potter with Pastor Betsy Gallaway-Carew officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Potter Cemetery.

Cremation has taken place. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday to sign Marvin's register book and drop off condolences for the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel and Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Marvin's care and funeral arrangements.

Marvin Clarence Harmsen, the son of Hugo and Hazel Doreen (Birt) Harmsen, was born on Nov. 16, 1938 at Kimball. He was involved in the Boy Scouts, attended the Potter Public Schools and excelled in football, basketball and baseball where he held several school records. He lived in Casper, Wyo. working for Eismen Chemical until 1976 when he moved to Douglas, Wyo. to work for Exxon. In 1986 Marvin started his own construction business, operating it until April of 2014 when he moved to Cheyenne Healthcare Nursing Home due to declining health.

Marvin was a very devoted Lions Club member and was very active for many years. He served as District Governor and was involved with the International Council. Marvin enjoyed bowling and was proud to have been a Potter Volunteer Fire Department Member and EMT.

Survivors include his son: Thomas Harmsen of Cheyenne; (2) granddaughters: Abbigail and Alyssa Harmsen also of Cheyenne; (2) sisters: Kathryn Mersheim of Pierre, SD and Luella Osborn of Vancouver, Wash. and numerous extended family members and friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and (1) sister: Lois.
