Legion baseball splits at Crete

Post 17 knocks off Rawlings, Pleasant Dale at tourney

The Post 17 Seniors came away from last weekend's Crete tournament with a split. dropping games to Lincoln Lutheran and the home club while beating Rawlins and Pleasant Dale.

An ugly final inning tilted the scoreline in SIdney's opener. Lincoln Lutheran padded a 5-0 lead, adding 7 more runs to claim a 12-0 win. Nine Sidney errors did not help matters.

Travis Garska took the loss, allowing five runs over six innings of work--only one of which was earned. Post 17 managed only three baserunners. Garska and Scott Phillips slapped singles while Jaden Sears drew a walk.

Game two was a different matter. Colton Onstott clubbed two doubles, driving in a pair of runs. Phillips also tallied two RBI. The team scored 7 runs over the final three innings, committed just one fielding error and downed Rawlins 8-4.

On Saturday, however, Sidney faced a tough Crete squad, falling 19-0.

Sunday brought a measure of redemption. Against Pleasant Dale, Onstott, Garska and Bradey Holtz each collected two hits. Onstott drove four home. Holtz and Kyle Burton crossed the plate twice and Post 17 ended the weekend with a 9-7 win.
