Cabela's announces plans for Calgary store


Cabela’s is expanding its footprint in Canada.

The company plans to begin construction on its third store in Alberta, Canada later this year.

Cabela’s hopes to open this 70,000 square foot store located in Calgary in fall 2015. The store is expected to employ around 180 workers.

Cabela’s opened its first store in Edmonton, Alberta in 2011 and opened another in Edmonton in May of this year.

“Alberta has been great to Cabela’s,” said Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner in a press statement. “Our two Edmonton locations have received tremendous support. It is time to expand to Calgary and better serve the loyal Cabela’s customers in southern Alberta.”

Cabela’s first Canada store, along with its Canadian headquarters were opened in 2007 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Cabela’s Canada opened a corporate headquarters and call center in Winnipeg in 2010.

The Sidney-based company currently operates five stores in Canada. It plans to open additional stores in Ontario and British Columbia this year as well as a store in New Brunswick in 2015.

Cabela’s currently has 58 stores in North America and plans to open 20 more in the next two years.

The company is currently working to expand its corporate campus near the interstate in Sidney to better serve its growing business.
