Ruth E. Nienhueser

1926 to 2014

Ruth E. Nienhueser, 88 of Sidney, passed away Aug. 30, 2014 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wed., Sept. 3rd in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sidney. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to the Lutheran Hour or in care of the family for future designation. Ruth Ellen Nienhueser, the daughter of Anton and Hilda Louise (Leimbach) Steffens was born on Jan. 11, 1926 at Wittenburg, Mo. She was baptized on Feb. 14, 1926, confirmed April 2, 1939 and graduated from the eighth grade at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Potter. Ruth began her working career at the Sioux Army Depot near Sidney. On June 22, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage to Clifford Nienhueser at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Potter. Ruth and Cliff spent their entire married life in Sidney in the home that Cliff built. She was involved with the Board of Directors at Nienhueser Construction, an active member of the Ladies Aid at St. Paul's Sidney, a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who instilled the virtues of religion, family, honesty, dependability and faithfulness. Ruth was the number one supporter for all of her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She always enjoyed a good game of cards and loved her time spent with family and friends in card clubs. She spent many hours gardening, quilting and cooking. Ruth was a baseball fan who cheered the St. Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies.

Survivors include her children: Dennis and wife Pam, David and wife Teresa, Keith and wife Kathy, Judy Larsen and husband Les, Mark and wife Shelley all of Sidney, Paul and wife Gwen of Greeley, Colo. and Jane Sebert and husband Bill of Mitchell, S.D .; grandchildren: Todd Nienhueser, Dana (Brian) Booe, Kyle Nienhueser and fiancé Kate Kloke, Jenny (Josh) Lessman, Julie Nienhueser, Sarah (Alex) Sinnett, Kim (Curtis) Hofrock, Nicole (Aaron) Brauer, Melissa (Stan) Norgard, Laura Larsen, Jeff (Annie) Nienhueser, Chris Nienhueser, Tim Nienhueser and Taylor, Maggie and Katy Sebert; step-grandchildren: Ashley, Matt and Kaitlyn Wells, Jena Hume, Jody (Jamee) Guggenmos, Jamie Russell and Ricque (Zach) Wirth; (15) great-grandchildren and (14) step-great-grandchildren; her siblings: Gertrude Rushman, Bob (Delores) Steffens, and Ronnie Steffens, sister-in-law: Charlotte Steffens and brother-in-law: Raymond (Dorothy) Nienhueser.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Clifford, her parents, her brothers: Norm Steffens and wife Lemoyne and Leonard Steffens; brothers-in-law: Norm Rushman, Vearn Nienhueser and wife Bev, Art Nienhueser, Herbert Nienhueser and Vic Nienhueser; sisters-in-law: Mable Tegtmeier and husband Bill, Irene Fischer and husband Ervin, Eldora Schubarth and husband Rudy, Helen Koester and husband Henry.
