Scarecrow Contest around the corner

It’s time again for the annual Scarecrow Contest sponsored by the Cheyenne County Ladies Chamber.

Individuals, organizations and businesses from Cheyenne County can participate by making a scarecrow and displaying it on one of the assigned light poles along Highway 30.

Cash prizes of $50, $35 and $15 will be awarded in each division, and judging will be based on originality, color, design and construction. Entries must contain some straw, corn shucks or raffia.

Displays cannot contain advertising, but a small index card with the name of the entity that submitted the scarecrow is allowed.

Scarecrows must be securely fastened to its pole by noon on Sept. 30 for judging.

Entries from Lodgepole, Gurley, Dalton and Potter are welcome, and applicants may choose a pole for their scarecrow within their own communities. Mail an entry before the deadline to be included in the judging.

Contact Margie Surber at the Cheyenne County Chamber office, 740 Illinois St., Sidney, or call her at 308-254-4965.
