Ella Mae Goranson, 85 of Sidney, died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Sidney.

Funeral service will held at 10:30 a.m., Tues., Sept. 16, 2014 in the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney with Pastor Doug Birky officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Mon., Sept. 15, from 2 to 6 p.m.. at the Holechek Funeral Home.

Ella Mae (Horton) Goranson was born in Louisville, Miss. on Feb. 1, 1929 to Edward and Alma (Love) Horton. She was baptized Aug. 17, 1938 at a camp meeting at Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Ackerman, Miss. She moved with her family to Sidney in 1943 where she attended schools, graduating from Sidney High School in 1948. She married Vernon Albert Goranson on Sept. 26, 1948 and was married for 53 years until his death in 2001.

She was an active farmer's wife. Ella Mae and Vernon were the originators of the annual Christmas Dinner; she was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, Compassionate Friends and numerous other organizations.

Survivors include her son David Alan Goranson and friend Anne Mueller of Gurley; sisters: Lois Anita Hollcroft of Allen, TX and Mary Margaret Harrison of Amarillo, TX.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon, and her children: Debra Gail, (1959), John Vernon (1961), Connie Diane (1974) and Thomas Dale (1986).

Memorials have been established to the Gurley Fire Department or the Evangelical Free Church.

Holechek Funeral Homes and Cremation is Sidney is serving the Goranson family.
