Robert H. "Bob" Hossle

1922 to 2014

Robert H. "Bob" Hossle, 92 of Omaha, and former longtime Sidney resident, passed away Sat., June 21, 2014 at the VA Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System in Omaha.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Fri., Oct. 3rd in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Military graveside services will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thurs., Oct. 2nd to sign Bob's register book and leave condolences. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to the First United Methodist Church.

Robert Howard Hossle, the son of Howard and Harriet (Young) Hossle was born on April 4, 1922 at Brule. He made several moves as a child and graduated from Wayne High School in Wayne. Bob served his country during World War II serving in the infantry from 1942 until 1946.

On Sept. 20, 1942 Bob was united in marriage to Virginia Sanders at Brule, a marriage that lasted seventy-one years. Three children were born to this union, Robert, Patrick and Pamela. Bob was active in the growth of Sidney, active as Fire Chief, Hospital Board Member for twenty-six years, City Council Member for four years and served as Mayor. Bob was also a Master Mason, a Shrine Club Member, served as County Clerk for sixteen years and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of Omaha; (3) children: Robert Hossle and wife Sharon of Austin, TX, Patrick Hossle and wife Marcy of Missoula, Mont. and Pamela Hossle of Omaha; (3) grandchildren: Andrew, Tierney and Ashley; (3) great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Jack Burns of Cheyenne, Wyo .; sister-in-law: Betty Gildersleeve and numerous extended family members.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Laura Burns, brother-in-law: Richard Gildersleeve and sister-in-law: Evelyn Larson and husband Corky.
