Cheyenne County received a $9,480 dividend check from the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association, the county's insurance provider. LINCOLN – Cheyenne County received a membership dividend of $9,480 from the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (NIRMA), the county's property, liability and workers' compensation coverage provider.
The dividend was part of a $600,000 financial return distributed among 78 Nebraska counties and six regional area agencies on aging during NIRMA's annual conference in Kearney earlier this month.
With this dividend, Cheyenne County has now received $303,559 in financial returns since becoming a member of NIRMA in 1988. NIRMA issues dividends from funds no longer needed for the payment of claims and general operating expenses.
NIRMA is owned and operated by the 80 member counties and six area agencies on aging it serves.This marks the 25th time since 1991 and the 19th consecutive year the program has been able to return funds, now totaling $15.6 million, to members and ultimately their local property taxpayers.
NIRMA was created by 32 counties in 1988 as the state's first governmental risk management and self-insurance program, and for the past 26 years it has provided affordable insurance coverages and comprehensive risk management and loss prevention services to Nebraska counties and related public agencies.
