Letter to the Editor: New school should be K-6

Dear Editor,

I see the school board wants to have another election for a new elementary school. Are they going to keep having elections until they get the count to come out right?

They keep wanting a K-4 school. It should be a K-6 with room for additions and expansion, and move it out of the flood plain. I have seen the land under water before they built the ditch and after they built the ditch. I am not saying that we don’t need a new school, but in yours plans there is no mention of expansion for the 500 to 600 new homes that are going to be built in the next few years. Are they going to then come back to the taxpayers and ask for a new or bigger school?

You say our taxes will only go up a few hundred dollars. I just got a big tax increase for our high school, which is not paid for yet. We should pay for them one at a time. So, when you go vote, ask if we can afford more taxes.

People wonder why I write these letters and it’s because I am tired of paying high taxes because of somebody’s “wants.” Back in 2005 or 2006, there was an article in the paper about Cabela’s “wants” and demands on the city. It seems these demands are being met with our tax dollars.

It seems that certain people want a new swimming pool, golf course and new schools, which all raise taxes. One thing Sidney does not have is a good shopping mall. I have seen people go out of town to go shopping in Sterling, Cheyenne and Scottsbluff to buy things they can’t get in Sidney.
