Knight shines in fourth quarter of Sidney win

ALLIANCE – Frustration may have been setting in for Sidney’s Kelsey Knight, but you’d never know it.

After being held scoreless in the first half, Knight ignited the Lady Raiders with a stellar fourth quarter to help lead her team to a 39-31 victory Thursday night on the road against Alliance.

Knight finished with a game-high 11 points – including eight of her team’s 14 points in the final period when it made the difference.

Sidney, which evened its record at 3-3, trailed 16-15 at the intermission. It managed to outscore the Bulldogs 10-7 in the third quarter to go up 25-23, but the game was certainly still in the balance with eight minutes remaining.

“It was tough going in the first half from the outside and free-throw line,” said Sidney head coach Tyler Shaw. “We did a good job adjusting our defense and hitting free throws in the second half.”

Knight was was 7 for 8 from the line in the game, including a perfect 6 for 6 in the final period.

Savanna Rosenbaum chipped in eight points for Sidney, while teammates Vanessa Riley (five points), Maddie Porter (four points) and Ashley Stafford (four points) all contributed.

Alliance fell to 1-5.

The Lady Raiders return to the court tonight at Fort Morgan (Colo.) for a 5:30 p.m. game.
